Eurovision Sport to Broadcast World Boxing Events in Landmark Deal
Geneva, Switzerland - eurovision Sport has secured the broadcasting rights for events organized by World Boxing, the newly recognized international federation aiming to restore boxing’s place in the Olympic Games. The agreement will deliver coverage across a broad range of European and international markets, significantly expanding the audience reach for Olympic-style boxing.
This partnership arrives at a pivotal moment for the sport. Boxing’s future in the Olympics has been uncertain since the International Boxing Association (IBA) had its IOC recognition revoked in 2023. World Boxing, established in early 2023, received provisional recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February, positioning it as the sport’s governing body within the Olympic movement and bolstering its bid for inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The collaboration with Eurovision Sport is intended to showcase the sport and its athletes on a global stage, strengthening that bid.
“This partnership with Eurovision Sport is a major step forward for World Boxing,” stated Simon Toulson, World Boxing’s chief operating officer. “The enthusiasm, professionalism, and resources provided by Eurovision Sport will give these events meaningful audience reach and allow us to showcase Olympic-style boxing in a way not seen in recent times.”
The deal underscores Eurovision Sport’s commitment to gender-balanced sports coverage and expanding its portfolio of Olympic sports. It provides World Boxing with a crucial platform to build visibility and demonstrate its capacity to deliver high-quality events as it works towards full IOC recognition and securing boxing’s Olympic future.
