RTL Personality Faces Calls to Shift Focus From Talk Shows
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Beau van Erven Dorens, a prominent figure on Dutch television, is facing increasing scrutiny regarding his performance as a talk show host, with some industry observers suggesting a move towards other formats would be beneficial. The discussion comes as RTL 4 prepares to rotate presenters for its new talk show, RTL Tonight, with van Erven Dorens slated for the final month of initial programming alongside Humberto Tan and Renze Klamer.
Jordi Versteegden, a reporter for De Telegraaf, publicly questioned van Erven Dorens’ current strength in the talk show arena. “I’ve just been noticing myself for a while…that I don’t find him so strong in a talk show anymore,” Versteegden stated in a video posted on the Telegraaf website. This assessment fuels speculation about RTL’s long-term plans for van Erven Dorens, especially with the recent permanent placement of Leonie ter Braak alongside him.
The debate centers on whether van Erven Dorens’ extensive workload is impacting the quality of his talk show appearances. Versteegden suggests the presenter may privately desire a reduced role. “Who knows that will happen. I think Beau himself is gradually having something: well, a little less talk show. he doesn’t dare to admit that, precisely because he likes to keep doing everything, but you just notice that with him occasionally,” Versteegden explained.
Critics point to van Erven Dorens’ success with socially-focused programs like Beau Five Days Inside as evidence of his strengths. The program, conceived by van Erven Dorens, immerses him within various institutions, and he is currently filming a segment at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital. Presenter Karlijn Bernoster echoed the sentiment, questioning if pairing van Erven Dorens with ter Braak is a solution.
“Beau is doing very well: standing in society and feeling what is really going on,” one observer commented, expressing hope for more projects in that vein. Versteegden concluded, ”I would say: Beau, just do what you are really good at. My opinion.”
