UC Davis Football’s Rex Connors Earns Big Sky defensive player of the Week Honors
DAVIS, CA – UC davis Aggies linebacker Rex Connors has been named the Big Sky conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The recognition comes following a dominant performance in the aggies’ season-opening 38-17 victory over Utah Tech on Saturday.
Connors spearheaded a stifling defensive effort, recording a game-high 11 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, adn a crucial interception that helped swing momentum in favor of UC Davis. His performance anchored a unit that held Utah Tech to just 17 points after the Trailblazers scored on their opening drive.This weekly award highlights Connors’ individual excellence and signals a potentially impactful season for the Aggies’ defense.The Aggies overcame a slow start, falling behind early before erupting for 24 unanswered points. Connors’ interception proved pivotal in that turnaround, giving UC Davis possession and setting up a scoring drive. He was instrumental in limiting Utah Tech’s offensive opportunities throughout the second half.
Looking ahead, UC Davis faces a challenging 2025 schedule, beginning with a road contest at Washington on September 6th at 8:00 PM PT. The Aggies will then return home to host southern Utah on September 20th and Weber State on September 27th.
