Slovenia Secures Semifinal Berth with 87-79 Victory Over Iceland
Katowice, Poland – Slovenia advanced to the semi-finals of the European Championship Finals after a hard-fought 87-79 victory over Iceland in Katowice on Monday. The win, punctuated by a stellar performance from Luka Dončić, guarantees Slovenia’s place in the playoff round.
The game saw a back-and-forth first quarter, with Iceland initially keeping pace with the Slovenians. However, Slovenia seized the lead and maintained it throughout the remainder of the contest, despite a resilient effort from the icelandic side.
Dončić led the charge for Slovenia, finishing with an extraordinary 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. He was ably supported by Aleksej Nikolić, who contributed 17 points and 5 assists.
For Iceland, Martin Hermannsson was the standout performer, scoring 22 points and dishing out 6 assists. Trigvi Chlinason added 11 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.
