India Achieves Semiconductor Milestone with First “Made-in-India” Chip Unveiled at Semicon India 2025

New Delhi: India showcased its growing capabilities in semiconductor technology today with the presentation of the Vikram 32-bit processor – the nation’s first fully indigenous microchip – to prime Minister Narendra Modi at Semicon India 2025. The event underscored India’s ambition to become a “full stack semiconductor nation” and highlighted increasing global confidence in its potential.

1) First “Made-in-India” Chip Presented: Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the Vikram 32-bit processor, alongside test chips from four approved projects, to PM modi. Vaishnaw stated, “Today, the construction of five Semiconductor units is going on at a rapid pace…We just presented the first “Made-in-India” chip to PM Modi…”

2) ‘World Trusts India’: Prime Minister Modi, speaking at Semicon 2025, expressed confidence in India’s rising prominence in the global semiconductor landscape. “Today am here with the confidence that the world trusts India, the world believes in India and the world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India,” he said.3) India Ready to Become Full Stack Semiconductor Nation: Modi noted India’s transition from backend operations towards comprehensive semiconductor advancement. “The day is not far when India’s smallest chip will drive the biggest change in the world. Our journey started late, but nothing can stop us now…,” he affirmed.

4) Over ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Investment in Semiconductor Projects: The Prime Minister highlighted the importent investment flowing into the sector under the Semicon India plan. “an investment of more than ₹1.5 lakh crore is being made in ten semiconductor projects,” he stated, attributing this to the world’s growing trust in India. The National Single Window System has streamlined approvals for investors, reducing paperwork.

5) About Semicon India: Semicon India 2025 is a three-day conference held at the Yashobhoomi, india International Conventions Center in New Delhi, focused on establishing a robust, resilient, and lasting semiconductor ecosystem within India.
