Armed Attack at Boğaziçi University Leaves Teenager Dead, Perpetrator in Suicide
Istanbul, Turkey – A 20-year-old man shot and killed a 15-year-old girl before taking his own life at Boğaziçi University’s South Campus today, August 30, 2025. The incident occurred in a café on campus,prompting an immediate investigation by authorities.
The victim has been identified as H.Ö., and the perpetrator as Ak.According to police reports, the two had a discussion earlier in the day regarding the end of their relationship. The university confirmed the deaths in a statement released via its official X account, expressing condolences to the families and stating full cooperation with the ongoing judicial investigation lead by the Prosecutor’s Office.
Journalist Dilek Yaman Demir reported that the perpetrator, Ayberk K., had a criminal record consisting of 24 prior offenses. Demir also noted the victim, Hilal Ö., was a part-time employee working as a server at a wedding taking place in the café at the time of the shooting.
The university’s statement reads: “We have sadly learned that a civilian citizen died as a result of an armed attack at the south Campus of our University and that the perpetrator who carried out the attack committed suicide with the same weapon. The university in relation to the judicial investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office fulfills the necessary cooperation. We wish mercy from Allah to our citizens who lost their lives and condolences to their painful family and relatives. We respectfully present the public knowledge.”
