Arsenal Target Leverkusen Defender Piero Hincapié Amidst Transfer Activity
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié, though a deal is complicated by financial considerations and Leverkusen’s desire to retain the player. The news comes as Arsenal navigate a busy transfer window, balancing potential arrivals with the need to generate funds through player sales.
Arsenal are considering Hincapié as they also monitor the potential transfer of Jakub Kiwior to Porto. Valencia’s Ian Mosquera was previously a target, but Arsenal’s focus has shifted towards the 23-year-old Ecuadorian international.
Arsenal’s ability to secure new signings is contingent on offloading players, with Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, and Oleksandr Zinchenko among those whose futures at the Premier League club are uncertain. The club needs to raise capital before making further additions to the squad.
ESPN reported last week that Hincapié had attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs. He has a release clause of approximately €60 million ($70m), but Arsenal are expected to attempt to negotiate a lower fee.
Hincapié is under contract with Leverkusen until 2029, and the Bundesliga club is keen to keep him. Despite this, Arsenal are currently considered the frontrunners to sign him should he become available.
