Greater Noida: Woman Killed in Dowry Attack, In-Laws Arrested

Woman‌ Dies ⁢of Burns in Greater Noida, In-Laws Accused of Dowry Harassment and Murder

Greater noida, Uttar Pradesh​ – ⁣A woman has died from severe burn injuries in Greater Noida, wiht her family ⁤alleging she was set on fire by her in-laws ‍after years of ⁢dowry harassment. Police have arrested the victim’s husband and are ⁣searching for othre family members.

The victim, ‍identified as Nikki, was married in 2016 to a man in ⁣Sirsa, Greater Noida, though her mother states she had been married for seven years. According ‌to Nikki’s sister, the ​harassment began just six months after the marriage, escalating to physical abuse. She alleges Nikki was beaten on Thursday night and then deliberately set ablaze in ‌front of her son.

Police registered a case ⁤at the Kasana ⁢police⁤ station following the sister’s ​complaint, naming the victim’s husband​ and his family as suspects.Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed the arrest of Vipin, the husband,‌ stating,⁤ “Teams have been formed to arrest others.”

A memo received from Fortis hospital indicated a woman with burn‍ injuries​ had been admitted and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital. However, Kumar stated⁣ Nikki⁣ died​ en⁢ route to the⁣ hospital. ⁣A post-mortem was conducted, and the family cremated her remains.The victim’s mother told ANI that the in-laws had demanded vehicles and cash as dowry, and that her daughter⁣ was regularly abused by ⁣her husband and his⁣ family. She ⁢stated the in-laws had been demanding a sum of ₹36 lakh.

The incident is also ‌prompting scrutiny of a local school, though the connection to the case is currently unclear. Authorities noted the school​ management failed⁤ to inform the‍ District Education Officer ⁤(DEO) about an earlier incident involving a student and⁣ did not respond to a notice issued on ‍August 19 regarding that matter. A notice from the DEO cited “serious negligence and callous approach” and noted ⁢an FIR had been registered⁢ against the principal and others for negligence in a separate incident.
