Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna has expressed excitement over the public’s eager response, noting the unprecedented level of interest in the film’s advancement.
The original “The Devil Wears Prada,” released in 2006, became a cultural touchstone, offering a satirical look into the high-stakes world of fashion magazines.Based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, the film starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs,a recent college graduate navigating a challenging internship at the fictional Runway magazine, and Meryl Streep as the formidable Miranda Priestly, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.The film grossed over $326.8 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, cementing it’s place in cinematic history.
McKenna recently shared with IndieWire that the early attention, despite concerns about potential spoilers, is ultimately beneficial. “People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love as seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially as it’s a fashion movie,” McKenna explained. She acknowledged the shift in media landscape since the first film, stating, “In many ways, we’re speaking to a different world than we did in 2006.”
