wailuku, Hawaii – A recent food drive on maui, spearheaded by the Hawaii Food Bank, has yielded remarkable results, collecting over 13,000 pounds of food and more then $285,000 in monetary donations as of Saturday evening. The annual event, held Aug. 2, aims to combat food insecurity across Maui County and provide essential resources to local families.
For over three decades, Food Drive Day has been a cornerstone of the Maui Food Bank’s efforts to address hunger. This year’s drive took place at six key locations across the island: Walmart in Kahului, Safeway stores in Hookele, maui Lani, Kihei Piilani Village, and Lahaina Cannery Mall, as well as the Maui Food Bank warehouse in Wailuku. Volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day to collect donations from generous community members.
