cruz Azul Suffers Historic 7-0 Rout by Seattle Sounders in Leagues Cup Debut

Lumen field, washington – In a devastating opening to their Leagues Cup 2025 campaign, Mexican club cruz Azul was handed a crushing 7-0 defeat by Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders, marking the second-worst loss in the club’s storied history.

The rout, which mirrored a previous 7-0 loss to America in the MX League‘s Opening 2022 Tournament, saw the Argentine-led Cruz Azul concede heavily after a scoreless first half. Seattle Sounders’ Yeimar Gómez broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, igniting a scoring spree.

The home side extended their lead through Obed Vargas (50th minute), Jesús Ferreira (58th minute), Osaze De Rosario (69th minute), and a brace from Pedro de la Vega (76th and 90+1 minutes).Nouhou Tolo added the seventh goal in the 88th minute. Ferreira had two further goals disallowed for offside, preventing an even larger margin of victory.

This important defeat effectively seals Cruz Azul’s elimination from the tournament, as even winning their remaining group stage matches will not be enough to secure advancement.
