Emma Raducanu Wins Straight Sets, Advances to Canadian Open Third Round

Emma Raducanu has advanced to the third round of the Montreal tournament, overcoming a lapse in concentration in the second set to secure victory against a formidable opponent. The British No.1 expressed her satisfaction with the win adn her continued presence in Montreal.

“I’m really happy to have come through against a top opponent and to extend my stay here in montreal,” Raducanu stated. “I want to thank the supporters; seeing the Union Jack in crucial moments meant a lot to me, especially as I was born in Canada.”

raducanu’s next challenge will be against Amanda Anisimova, the Wimbledon finalist, who recently defeated Lulu Sun in straight sets.

The 2021 US Open champion demonstrated her dominance by securing an early break of serve in the opening set against Stearns, whom she has now defeated in all three of their encounters. She closed out the first set with another break.

Despite facing a break down in the second set, trailing 4-2, the world no. 33 rallied to win four consecutive games, ultimately clinching the match.

This victory marks Raducanu’s fifth win in her last six matches during the North American summer hard-court season. Her strong performance follows a semi-final appearance at the Washington Open last week, a run that also saw her reclaim the British No. 1 ranking.

Notably, Raducanu has not dropped a set in any of her five victories during this period.
