A Conmebol commission inspected progress at the Ramón ‘Tahuichi’ Aguilera stadium on Tuesday. This crucial visit will determine if Santa Cruz retains its status as the host city for the 2025 Copa Sudamericana final. Wiht the July 31 deadline for 50% completion looming, and despite an extension granted to local authorities, uncertainty grows regarding the stadium’s readiness for the November 22 event.
The departmental government requested an extension until mid-August to install new facade metal structures and a lighting tower. So far, bases have been placed, the roof over preference and armchair sections has been dismantled, and the light support in the general sector, where the press cabin will be located, has also been removed. Details for the court’s new irrigation system are being finalized, and new grass will be laid in the coming days.
Authorities from the Cruceña Government will meet with the commission on Wednesday morning to present a progress report. However, doubts persist. Fernando Tercero, director of Public Works for the Departmental Government, expressed uncertainty about Tahuichi hosting the final. “We made a schedule for July. As there were no concessions, we made a second schedule for August 1, and Conmebol is aware of all this. We are tightening the timelines, and it is unfeasible,” Tercero stated.
The Copa Sudamericana final is scheduled for November 22. However, the fully remodeled stadium must be presented for approval the frist week of October. Failure to meet this deadline could result in Conmebol moving the final to another contry.
