Rionegro Águilas Poised to Sign Striker Jorge Obregón, Beating Out América and Santa Fe
Rionegro Águilas is reportedly on the verge of securing a meaningful signing for the 2025-2 transfer window, with Colombian attacker Jorge Obregón, 28, expected to finalize a one-year deal with the club.Obregón, who previously played for Johor Dt in Malaysia, was also a target for América and Santa Fe, but appears to have chosen Rionegro Águilas.According to communicator Gerson Arias Henao, Obregón is scheduled to undergo his medical examination with Rionegro Águilas tomorrow. If all goes well, he will officially sign his contract. This move would mark Obregón’s return to Colombian football after departing for international play in July 2019.
Obregón, a product of Independiente Santa Fe‘s youth academy, has had a varied career since leaving Colombia. His previous clubs include Deportivo Municipal in Peru, NK Varaždin and HNK Rijeka in Croatia, and most recently, Johor Dt in Malaysia, where his contract concluded in July 2025. In his last season, Obregón contributed seven goals and two assists in 24 appearances across various competitions, including the Europa League, Asian Champions League, and the Malaysian League.Throughout his career, obregón has amassed a record of 40 goals and 17 assists in 228 games for eight different clubs. In Colombia, he previously represented Santa Fe, Real Cartagena, Jaguares de Córdoba, and Llaneros.
