FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been announced as the Patron of the 25th anniversary edition of the FIFA Master – International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport. The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) and the FIFA Master Scientific Committee made the announcement.
Infantino’s connection to the FIFA Master program dates back to its inception.A native of Brig,Switzerland,Infantino studied law at the University of Fribourg. Following his studies, he began his career as a Legal Advisor and General Secretary at CIES in Neuchâtel. In this role, he collaborated with the then CIES president, Prof. Jean-Louis Juvet, to establish the FIFA Master program. This foundational work was crucial to the program’s creation and has considerably impacted its graduates worldwide.
In 2000, Infantino joined UEFA, initially in their legal department, and later advanced to become the Director of UEFA Legal Affairs. He was appointed Deputy Secretary General in 2007 and then Secretary General in 2009.
A important figure in the FIFA Reform Committee, Infantino received the endorsement of the UEFA Executive Committee on October 26, 2015, to run for the position of FIFA President at the 2016 FIFA extraordinary Congress.He confirmed his candidacy on the same day and was elected FIFA President in February 2016.
