Medha Rana Stars Opposite Varun Dhawan in ‘Border 2’
Bollywood Epic Continues Legacy of 1997 War Hit
Rising talent **Medha Rana** is set to make her mark in Bollywood, taking on the female lead role in the highly anticipated “Border 2.” She will star alongside established actor **Varun Dhawan** in the forthcoming film.
New Chapter in War Epic
The new movie, “Border 2,” is a spiritual successor to director **J.P. Dutta**’s 1997 blockbuster “Border.” That original film, set against the backdrop of the 1971 Longewala border conflict, famously featured **Sunny Deol** leading a small Indian battalion against a larger Pakistani force.
“Border 2” will be directed by **Anurag Singh**, known for his work on the 2019 film “Kesari,” which recounted the Battle of Saragarhi. This historical epic depicted a fierce stand by 21 Sikh soldiers against thousands of Afghan invaders in 1897.
Production and Release Details
Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, in collaboration with Dutta’s J.P. Films, “Border 2” is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026. The film aims to capture the Republic Day holiday frame.
Notably, “Border 2” will also feature **Sunny Deol** alongside **Diljit Dosanjh**. Producers have clarified that despite the title, the film is not a direct sequel to “Border,” featuring new characters and a different narrative, even though **Deol** reprises his role.
Casting Insights
**Medha Rana**, whose prior credits include “Ishq in the Air,” “Friday Night Plan,” and “London Files,” brings a unique background to the role. Hailing from an Army family, her selection was reportedly based on her command of regional dialects and strong emotional range.
“It was imperative for us to find someone who could naturally embody the dialect, spirit, and rooted essence of the region. Medha impressed the team not just with her raw talent, but with her effortless command over the regional dialect and her emotional range as an actor.”
—Bhushan Kumar, Producer
“’Border 2′ is not just a film; it’s an emotion. Every choice we’ve made, from the director to the cast, is driven by our vision to tell a story that feels honest, powerful, and relevant. Medha Rana opposite actor Varun Dhawan will bring freshness and sincerity that aligns beautifully with the tone of the film.”
—Nidhi Dutta, Producer
