Haute-Savoie: New Zoning Decree for Contagious Dermatosis

Contagious Nodular Dermatosis Spreads: Haute-Savoie Implements New Zoning Measures

Breaking News: As of July 25, 2025, five new outbreaks of contagious nodular dermatosis have been confirmed in the Albanais adn near Faverges, prompting the Haute-Savoie prefecture to issue a revised zoning decree to contain the escalating spread of the disease.

The rapid proliferation of contagious nodular dermatosis continues to challenge livestock breeders. This past Friday, July 25th, saw the confirmation of five additional affected holdings in the Albanais and Faverges regions. This brings the total number of infectious holdings in Haute-Savoie to 20 since the initial detection on July 9th, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The municipalities of Rumilly, massingy, Marigny-Saint-Marcel, Faverges-Seythenex, Saint-Ferréol, Les Combes-Seythenex, and Boussy are now under heightened surveillance. In addition to these, 19 cases have been identified in Savoy, specifically in the municipalities of Entrelacs and Hauteluce, resulting in a cumulative total of 39 confirmed outbreaks across the Pays de Savoie region.

In response to a new outbreak detected in Savoy, situated in close proximity to Haute-Savoie,the prefect of Haute-Savoie,Emmanuelle Dubée,has enacted a new zoning decree. This measure aims to realign the regulated perimeters with the evolving trajectory of the virus’s propagation.

Consequently, ten municipalities that were previously designated as surveillance zones are now being elevated to the protection zone, which encompasses a 20-kilometer radius around confirmed outbreaks. These municipalities include Combloux, Les Contamines-Montjoie, Cordon, Demi-Quartier, Domancy, Le Grand-Bornand, Megève, Praz-sur-Arly, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, and Sallanches.Farms within this protection zone will face more stringent regulations and will be subject to veterinary inspections to monitor the health status of their animals through clinical examinations.

Furthermore, thirteen new municipalities in the Vallée Verte and Chablais regions are being incorporated into the surveillance area. These include Bellevaux, Boëge, Bogève, La Côte d’Arbroz, Essert-Romand, Habère-Lullin, Mégevette, Montrond, Morzine, saint-Jean-d’Aulps, seytroux, Vallorcine, and Villard. A extensive list of all affected municipalities will be made available on the Haute-Savoie prefecture’s official website. As a reminder, the surveillance zone extends to a 50-kilometer radius around confirmed outbreaks, necessitating enhanced veterinary oversight, disinfection protocols, and restrictions on cattle movements.

Affected herds will undergo vaccination as part of the containment strategy.
