Vega C Rocket Lifts Off with Crucial Earth and CO2 Monitoring Satellites

A Vega C rocket successfully launched from South america late Friday, carrying vital satellites designed to observe Earth and measure carbon dioxide levels.

The Arianespace-operated rocket departed the Guiana Space Centre at 11:03 pm local time, carrying five satellites for Airbus Defense and space and France’s National Centre for Space Studies (CNES).

Mission Objectives and Capabilities

The Earth-mapping constellation aboard the Vega C is engineered to deliver high-resolution, three-dimensional global imaging for a minimum of six years.

Additionally, one satellite is dedicated to quantifying the sources and sinks of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas, according to CNES.

Arianespace CEO David Cavailloles highlighted the satellite’s importance as a tool for understanding global warming, with an anticipated operational lifespan of at least five years.
