Doctor Admits Supplying Ketamine to Matthew Perry Ahead of Actor’s Death
A doctor has pleaded guilty in California in connection with the death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry. The 43-year-old physician admitted to administering ketamine to the actor multiple times. Sentencing is scheduled for December, with the doctor facing a potential prison term of up to 40 years. However, in exchange for his guilty plea, other charges have been dismissed, and a lighter sentence is anticipated.Perry, who publicly battled addiction, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. He had reportedly undergone ketamine therapy for depression and anxiety under medical supervision, but also allegedly obtained the drug through illicit channels.
The doctor’s lawyer stated that their client is “deeply remorseful” for his treatment decisions and hopes his case will serve as a cautionary tale for other physicians regarding ketamine supply. The doctor provided ketamine to Perry between September 30 and October 12, 2023, administering it personally on several occasions, including at perry’s residence and in a public parking lot. He received thousands of dollars for these services.Prosecutors do not believe the ketamine that ultimately caused Perry’s death was supplied by this doctor.
Following Perry’s death, authorities charged five individuals. Three, including another doctor, an assistant, and an acquaintance of Perry, pleaded guilty last year, with their sentencing pending.A woman known as the “Ketamine Queen,” accused of being a drug supplier, has pleaded not guilty, and her trial is set for mid-August.
Ketamine, a drug used for decades, is approved for treating therapy-resistant depression under specific medical conditions. It is indeed also used recreationally as a club drug.
