A Quebec consumer is seeking to launch a class-action lawsuit against Bayer, the manufacturer of Roundup Advanced, alleging the product is overpriced and misleadingly marketed as a superior weed killer.
The lawsuit, filed by Alain Bestavros, centers on the product’s effectiveness, especially its acetic acid content. A report by Radio-Canada on June 25 featured Normand Voyer, a chemistry professor at Laval University, who commented on Roundup Advanced. Voyer stated that the product’s acetic acid concentration is so low that “There is not enough difference for it worth paying more than buying the cheapest vinegar you can find on the market.”

Bestavros is seeking reimbursement for consumers who purchased Roundup Advanced since July 22, 2022, or a price reduction reflecting the product’s actual value. The lawsuit also seeks punitive damages, aiming to curb what the applicant describes as “misleading practices which prevent gullible and inexperienced consumers from making informed choices.”
The legal action highlights ongoing scrutiny of herbicide products and their marketing claims, particularly concerning their composition and efficacy compared to more common household alternatives.
