Vancouver Lapu lapu Festival Attack Suspect Faces 11 Murder Charges
The suspect in the fatal Vancouver Lapu Lapu festival vehicle attack is now facing an additional three charges of second-degree murder.
Kai-Ji Lo, 30, had these new charges approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service on Tuesday,July 22,following a review of further evidence. This brings the total number of murder charges against him to 11.
Lo was originally charged with eight counts of second-degree murder on April 27, the day after the incident. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 23, to address his fitness to stand trial.
A publication ban remains in effect, issued by Judge Reg Harris on May 2, to ensure a fair trial. While media can report on the application for a fitness assessment,the specifics of the assessment itself are under the ban.
Lo is accused of driving an SUV into a crowd during the street festival. The attack resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals: seven women, two men, one non-binary person, and a five-year-old girl.Additionally, at least two dozen people were injured, with ages ranging from 22 months to 60 years old.
