Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Despite ongoing security challenges in the capital that hinder aid delivery, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided essential emergency kits and psychological support to over 800 families. Site committees are being established to enhance the management of displacement shelters.
The IOM has distributed more than 50,000 items, including mats, solar lamps, tarps, kitchen sets, blankets, and jerrycans, to families displaced by gang violence across the Artibonite, Ouest, and Center regions. These provisions are intended to help those most in need remain safe and prepare for the upcoming cyclone season.
Amidst hardship and uncertainty, educator Edens Désir remains committed to his students, stating, “Since I was a child, I have loved teaching. For these children, school is the only real chance they have.” His dedication underscores the vital role of education as a form of resilience, even in the face of adversity. Désir believes that knowledge serves as a crucial defense against dehumanization and hopes his students will one day contribute to building a peaceful Haiti.
