movistar Estudiantes Secures Omar Silverio for 2025-26 Season
Madrid, Spain – Movistar Estudiantes has announced the signing of Dominican Republic international Omar Silverio for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The 1.90m guard, born in 1998, brings a wealth of international experience and scoring prowess to the Spanish club.
Silverio, who holds a dominican passport, began his senior career in the NCAA with Hofstra Pride, where he set a university record with 11 three-pointers in a single game. His journey then took him to the Mexican League with soles de Mexicali before making the leap to European basketball.
Last season,Silverio played for Hapoel Galil Elyon in Israel,averaging an impressive 14.7 points per game. He then joined Surne Bilbao Basket in January 2025, contributing 7.7 points per game across three Endesa League and three Europe Cup appearances. Most recently, he played for Covirán Granada, where he averaged 8.4 points in nine games.
Internationally, Silverio represents the Dominican Republic, averaging 7 points per game in qualifying matches for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup.The Movistar Estudiantes coaching staff expressed enthusiasm for the new acquisition. Head coach Toni Ten described Silverio as “a player with a lot of hunger and with a lot of desire to grow,” highlighting his scoring ability, proficiency in isolation and pick-and-roll plays, and defensive capabilities.Ten further emphasized Silverio’s experience at the top European level,believing he will be a important contributor to the team’s success.
Silverio becomes the eighth confirmed player for Movistar Estudiantes’ 2025-26 roster, joining Tanner McGrew, Pato Garino, Yago Mateu, Hugo López, Lucas Giovannetti, Goran Filipovic, and Asier González.
