NBA Investigates Terry Rozier for Alleged Gambling Violations
the National Basketball Association (NBA) is reportedly investigating free-agent guard Terry Rozier for alleged violations of the league’s gambling rules. The investigation stems from unusual betting activity connected to a March 2023 game in which Rozier played for the Charlotte Hornets.
This development follows a similar situation involving Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter, who received a lifetime ban from the NBA in April 2024 for violating the league’s gambling policies. Free-agent guard Malik Beasley is also reportedly under investigation by federal authorities and the NBA for prop bets placed since January 2024, when he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. Beasley has not been formally charged.
Reporting by Pablo Torre and Yahoo Sports’ Tom Haberstroh has uncovered a connection between Rozier, Porter, and Beasley through an individual using the alias “Moose,” who was involved in gambling activities. This connection reportedly predicted Beasley’s investigation five months prior to the news of Rozier’s situation becoming public.
Rozier did not participate in the final eight games of the Hornets’ season following the March 2023 contest in question. He was subsequently traded to the Miami Heat, where he remains under contract for $26.6 million through the 2025-26 season. During his tenure with the Heat, rozier has averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, with a 3-point shooting percentage of 32%.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York has declined to confirm or deny Rozier’s involvement in the investigation, as reported by ESPN.
