AS Roma Nears Deal for Richard Ríos, Benfica Lurks

AS Roma is reportedly close too securing the signing of Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos from Palmeiras, with an offer that meets the Brazilian club’s valuation. The 25-year-old midfielder is said to be willing to forgo his share of the transfer fee to facilitate the move to Italy.Ríos has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with AS Roma, with an annual salary exceeding two million euros. This development comes as Benfica has also shown interest in the player, having made several approaches but no formal offer to Palmeiras. Benfica’s reported maximum offer of 25 million euros is believed to be insufficient to secure Ríos’s signature, especially with AS Roma’s more advanced negotiations.

Ríos’s potential farewell game for Palmeiras was Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw against Mirassol in the brasileirão. He was involved in the play that led to Palmeiras’s goal.

The Colombian international’s career path includes a stint in Flamengo’s youth academy before moving to Guarani in 2022. He was than loaned to Mexican club Mazatlán before Palmeiras acquired him in 2023 for 1.38 million euros.
