Evacuation Underway After Fall on Indonesian Peak

A Swiss national, identified as **Benedikt Emmegger**, who sustained injuries after a fall on Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara, has been successfully airlifted to safety. The national park authorities confirmed the swift rescue operation.

Successful Aerial Extraction

The Gunung Rinjani National Park Hall (BTNGR) announced the successful evacuation via an Instagram post. The climber was reached and transported by helicopter, arriving at a hospital in Bali for further medical attention on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

The incident occurred as **Emmegger** was descending the Sembalun Pelawangan path towards Lake Segara Anak. He had commenced his climb via the Sembalun route on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Safety Appeal Issued

Following the successful rescue, BTNGR reiterated calls for heightened vigilance among visitors to the park. They urged climbers to prioritize safety during their ascent.

“You are Rinjani, let’s be more careful when conducting climbing activities in Mount Rinjani National Park, pay attention to footrests in every step, do not rush and still prioritize safety.”

Rescue Operation Details

The Mataram SAR Office received an alert about the fall on Wednesday afternoon from **Yarman**, the Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park. A SAR rescue team was promptly dispatched to the location.

Mount Rinjani, an active volcano, is a popular trekking destination. In 2023, an estimated 24,000 tourists visited the national park, according to data from the West Nusa Tenggara Natural Resources Conservation Center.

The BTNGR emphasized the importance of mindful movement and careful footing on the challenging terrain.
