New York City is about to get a whole lot more super, as a Krypto the Superdog Look-Alike Contest is set to take over Manhattan West Plaza on Friday, July 18th, at 2 PM. Dog parents are invited to bring their canine companions, regardless of breed or size, to compete for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize and the ultimate bragging rights.

Organized by Pumpkin Pet Insurance, the event aims to celebrate the “superhero spirit” within every pet. “Whether your pup is a dead ringer for Krypto or just bursts with superhero spirit, this is your chance to show the world the true power of pets,” a press release from the organizers stated.

The competition will award two top prizes: “Best Krypto Lookalike” and “Most Unique, Unlike-Krypto” contestant. Each winner will not only receive $1,000 but also a $2,500 donation to the Angel Fund at a veterinary clinic of their choice. A panel of expert judges will make the final decisions, with a little help from the audience’s cheers.

This unique event follows a trend of celebrity look-alike contests in NYC, but this time, the spotlight is firmly on our four-legged friends. As Time out’s film critic raves about Krypto’s “sparky” presence in the new Superman movie, this contest offers a playful way for owners to showcase their own pets’ heroic qualities.
