Iran Accuses Israel of Using Father’s Arrest to Intimidate Critics
An Iranian official has accused Israel of using the arrest of her father to silence dissent, asserting that if Israel believes her father is guilty, he shoudl be granted a fair trial. This statement comes amidst heightened tensions and follows an incident where Israel reportedly penetrated Iranian security, leading to an attack that injured President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence has faced reputational damage due to this security breach. Meanwhile, prospects for a resolution in talks with the United States remain uncertain. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly presented a new demand, stipulating that Iran should be prohibited from possessing missiles with a range exceeding 300 miles (480km).
In response, an Iranian official, identified as Araghchi, stated that Netanyahu, having failed to achieve his objectives in Iran and resorting to the US for support after Iranian missiles struck “secret Israeli regime sites,” is now dictating US policy in negotiations with Iran. Araghchi’s comments are seen as part of a broader Iranian strategy to create divisions between the United States and Israel.
