Walmart Recalls Water Bottles After Injuries
Defective caps caused facial injuries, including permanent vision damage.
An urgent recall has been issued by **Walmart** for hundreds of thousands of stainless steel water bottles after multiple customers reported injuries. The caps of these bottles are prone to forceful ejection, posing a significant safety hazard.
Customer Injuries Prompt Action
**Walmart** initiated the recall after receiving three reports of customers who sustained injuries to the face when the bottle caps unexpectedly burst open. Disturbingly, two of these individuals suffered permanent blindness in one eye as a result of the impact.
According to a consumer safety group, the issue stems from pressure build-up when the bottles are used to contain food, carbonated beverages, or perishable items like juice and milk.
Recall Details and Customer Instructions
The affected water bottles, exclusively sold at **Walmart** since 2017, have been removed from shelves. About 850,000 units have been sold. The company urges customers to immediately discontinue use of the bottles.
Consumers can return the recalled bottles to **Walmart** to receive a full refund of the purchase price.
Company Statement
In a statement released to the Associated Press, **Walmart** emphasized, “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority.”
Product recalls are not uncommon, with over 2,200 recalls issued in the United States in 2023 alone (Statista).
