Clarke Schmidt will submit, this Friday, Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career
The right pitcher of the New York Yankees, Clarke Schmidtwill undergo surgery Tommy John for the second time in his career, as announced on Thursday the manager Aaron Boone.
Schmidt, who will undergo surgery due to a red collateral ligament on Friday, will miss the rest of the 2025 season and most, if not all, the 2026 campaign.
A magnetic resonance made last Friday confirmed the injury. Schmidt, who said he had been dealing with elbow pain since June 4, left his opening against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 3 after only three entries due to the inconvenience.
Schmidt, 29, also underwent surgery in 2017. The 2017 first round of the Draft had an effectiveness of 3.32 in 14 openings this season.
“It has become a really good starter in this league,” Boone said last week. “So it is a hard blow. All teams have their fee of these things, and we have to be able to absorb them and, hopefully, recover some players soon and create another opportunity for someone else to, hopefully, can take over.”
The right pitcher of the Yankees, Gerrit ColeTommy John also underwent surgery in March.
