Kuwait – 10 – 7 (KUNA) – The Ministry of Health represented by the Health Promotion Department launched today, Thursday, the awareness campaign (strengthening your health with climate change) under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al -Awadi, and cooperation with the Bromenad Complex, concerned with the health effects of climate change and the importance of preserving the environment and public health.
The assistant undersecretary for public health, Dr. Al -Mundhir Al -Hassawi, said in a statement to reporters after the launch of the campaign that continues throughout the summer that climate change has become a tangible reality that we currently live with the high temperatures in various countries of the world.
Al -Hassawi added that the Ministry of Health has a national committee concerned with climate change that includes representatives of the various regions of the state and one of the goals of the committee to increase health awareness of the effects of climate change on health and evaluate the connection of climate change in diseases, whether directly or indirectly.
He explained that the committee would also set policies to adapt to climate change and reduce its negative effects on human health, pointing to the contribution of the Ministry of Health to developing the national health adaptation plan in conjunction with the General Authority for the Environment.
For her part, the director of the Health Promotion Department, Dr. Abeer Al -Bahwah, said in a similar press statement that the campaign revolves around encouraging healthy behavior and directing attention to the relationship between the environment and health by organizing workshops, lectures and interactive activities to transfer knowledge and stimulate positive change.
Al -Babouh added that this stresses the importance of confronting climate change as one of the largest health threats in the world and the importance of developing health systems capable of adapting this challenge and preserving the environment and human health.
She explained that the campaign also aims to increase public awareness of the health effects of climate change and the importance of preserving the environment, such as increasing temperatures, changing the pattern of rain, its impact on infectious and chronic diseases, the high level of the seas and its impact on coastal societies.
She pointed out that the Ministry of Health has always endeavored to educate all members of society about the effects of severe heat and maintain their health from sunstroke and pollution of external air.
For his part, a member of the Emarat Committee (a third of the late Abdullah Al -Othman), Adnan Al -Othman, said that the committee’s participation in cooperation with the Health Promotion Department in the campaign aims to highlight the direct relationship between climate changes and public health and enhance societal awareness about healthy and environmental behaviors.
Al -Othman stressed the importance of awareness campaigns in confronting the dangers of climate change and its effects on human health and society, explaining that spreading environmental and health awareness is one of the most prominent means to reduce this phenomenon by communicating simplified and direct messages about ways to prevent and adapt to its increasing repercussions.
And that spreading awareness of the dangers of climate change and the necessity of adopting sustainable practices constitute the first line of defense, especially if the young and adolescent groups target with the need to link this awareness to the relevant behavioral and social causes. (End) MRP
