Theatre Critic Returns After Unexpected Hiatus

After a lengthy absence, a well-known theatre critic is preparing to resume her reviews. The break, prompted by health concerns, caused the critic to miss live performances and events. However, she is ready to share her thoughts on the stage once again.

The Unforeseen Interruption

The critic’s time away from the theater began in February. A taxing train journey through Heuston Station significantly affected her mobility. Though the performance of Die Fledermaus by Irish National Opera was memorable, it marked the beginning of her unexpected break.

The situation worsened rapidly. On February 19, Emer O’Kelly visited her orthopaedic surgeon. The doctor was already familiar with her health issues.

This period marks the longest stretch away from a theatre for the critic. Throughout her adult life, the critic has regularly attended performances. The absence has been significant, but she is now preparing for her return.

“It’s undoubtedly the longest period in my teenage and adult life that I haven’t been inside a theatre.”

Statistics indicate that the theatre industry is recovering. In 2024, theatre attendance increased by 15% compared to the previous year, showing a growing interest in live performances (Statista).

Looking Ahead

The critic’s return is eagerly awaited by her audience. After recuperating, she is poised to share her insights and critiques once again.
