The Washington Capitals have bolstered their forward ranks, acquiring Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers. This move, announced today, sees the Capitals look to improve their scoring ability by adding a young, versatile player to their roster.

The Capitals secured Sourdif in exchange for their second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and their sixth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, according to senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick.

Player Performance
In the 2024-25 season, Sourdif, 23, accumulated 34 points, with 16 goals and 18 assists, across 43 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). His performance positioned him as fifth in goals and sixth in points for Charlotte, despite the limited game time. His points-per-game rate was the team’s second-highest for skaters with at least 20 games played.

Career Overview
Sourdif was initially selected by Florida in the third round, 87th overall, during the 2020 NHL Draft. In his single appearance with the Panthers during the 2024-25 season, he scored his first career NHL goal on February 25th in Nashville.
During the 2023-24 season, Sourdif achieved an AHL career-high with 38 points in 58 games while with Charlotte. He also played in three games with the Panthers during the 2023-24 season, making his NHL debut on October 16, 2023, against New Jersey.
In 149 AHL games with Charlotte, Sourdif has totaled 96 points. His NHL record includes one point in four career games.
Prior Experience
Sourdif played five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Vancouver Giants and Edmonton Oil Kings, accumulating 205 points in 199 games.
