Samsung Confirms End of Updates for Galaxy A Series

Owners of several popular Samsung Galaxy A-series phones are facing a significant shift. The tech giant has declared that Android 16, arriving via One UI 8, will mark the conclusion of major updates for key models, signaling the end of an era for these devices.

The End of the Line

Samsung officially declared that One UI 8, grounded on Android 16, represents the last big update for Galaxy A33, A53, and A73 models. This implies that four years of substantial system version support will conclude with the advent of One UI 8 for users of these specific phones.

These smartphones, initially launched with Android 12, were promised Four Main System Updates by Samsung. The rollout of Android 16 will fulfill this commitment. However, the manufacturer will keep supplying security patches, and potentially minor updates such as One UI 8.1, though less frequently.

Future Updates

The forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 will be among the first devices to receive an update, likely in July. Updates should then be delivered to premium models like the Galaxy S25, S24, and Fold and Flip 6. Owners of the series may have to wait several months.

Considering an Upgrade?

If users value extended support and fresh features, it’s worth considering upgrading to a model with six or seven guaranteed updates. According to Statista, the global smartphone market is expected to reach 1.5 billion units shipped in 2025 (Statista 2025).

This includes the new Galaxy S series and upcoming models which will hit the market with the new update. They’re designed to stay current for up to seven years.
