Four killed in Kyiv in new Russian aerial attack

Kyiv Under Attack: Missiles and Drones Claim Lives

A devastating overnight attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, has resulted in significant casualties and widespread destruction, as Russia continues its aerial assault. Residential buildings and vital infrastructure were targeted, leaving residents reeling from the impact of the attacks.

Residential Areas Heavily Impacted

At least four people died in the overnight missile and drone strike, according to the Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko. The strikes hit residential areas, medical facilities, and sports infrastructure. One section of a high-rise residential building was destroyed in the hardest-hit district of Shevchenkivskyi, where individuals are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

In the Kyiv region, the Russian aerial attack claimed the life of a woman, while two others sustained injuries, as stated by regional head Mykola Kalashnyk. The Russian military has not provided any comment on the incident.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine, DSNS, reports that 13 individuals, including two children and a pregnant woman, suffered injuries in Kyiv. The attacks have intensified in recent weeks, with the Russian military escalating the intensity of its aerial operations (Council on Foreign Relations).

Ongoing Rescue and Relief Efforts

Footage released by DSNS shows shocked residents being led away from a destroyed high-rise building that was still ablaze. Multiple fires were reported across the capital. In response to the attacks, many residents of Kyiv sought shelter in underground metro stations.

Metro Station Damaged

Local officials have reported damage to an entrance of one of the city’s underground metro stations due to the Russian attacks.

The attacks are part of the ongoing conflict initiated when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
