Gordon to Command as Mexico City Gears Up for NASCAR Debut

The Viva Mexico 250 is set to make history as NASCAR’s first points race beyond the United States since 1958. Racing legend Jeff Gordon is taking on a special role for the event, while the status of Alex Bowman after his recent crash remains uncertain.

Jeff Gordon Steps Into the Spotlight

Jeff Gordon, a NASCAR icon and a key figure at Hendrick Motorsports, is scheduled to have a significant presence at the upcoming Viva Mexico 250. This event, part of the Cup Series, will be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

Gordon will be the “Official Commander,” initiating the race with the starting command. His Hendrick Motorsports teammates, including Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Chase Elliott, will compete on the 2.42-mile circuit.

Bowman’s Participation in Question

Alex Bowman is hoping to compete after a frightening crash at Michigan. He crashed nose-first into a barrier, but Gordon reassured that despite being “very sore,” Bowman is expected to race in Mexico City.

Additional Notes

Denny Hamlin will not be racing. He announced the birth of his son on Thursday and will be replaced by Ryan Truex.
