According to reports, the boy initially visited an ambulance, emergency room, and hospital due to a toothache.his dentist cleaned his teeth and prescribed antibiotics, but the pain persisted. Subsequently, the family sought treatment at an accident hospital and a children’s hospital, but the boy’s condition continued to worsen, marked by fever and vomiting.
The family eventually arrived at the University Hospital at St.Anna in Brno, where a dentist extracted two teeth. The boy was then released for home care, but he died shortly thereafter due to sepsis, a severe blood poisoning resulting from an infection.
Legal Proceedings and Court Ruling
The parents pursued legal action, initially seeking 1.25 million Czech crowns (approximately 50,000 euros) each in damages. During the proceedings, they acknowledged some neglect of their son’s dental hygiene, noting he had multiple caries. They also withdrew their lawsuit against the children’s hospital, as the facility only addressed associated symptoms and not the primary tooth pain.
Ultimately, the City Court in Brno awarded each parent 875,000 Czech crowns (more than 35,000 euros). The University Hospital at St. Anna, the accident hospital, and the dentist are liable for the compensation. The court’s verdict is not yet final.
