SINGAPORE – A 27-year-old man has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft of cash and CDC vouchers.
In a statement on June 1, the police said they were alerted to the incident at a residential unit located in Jurong West Street 93 at around 8am on May 31.
Printed copies of CDC vouchers worth $193, alongside $55 and RM168 (S$51) in cash were allegedly stolen, said the police.
They were recovered from the suspect after his arrest.
The man is expected to be charged on June 2 with the offence of housebreaking in order to commit theft. If found guilty, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
To protect against such crimes, the police urged home owners to adopt the following practices:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows, grilles and other openings with good-quality grilles and close-shackle padlocks when leaving their home unattended, even if it is for a short time;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in their home;
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and CCTVs to cover the access points into their home. Ensure they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
