A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck Turkey. The earthquake was in the southeastern Turkish-Syrian border region. Tremors were also felt in cities like Cyprus and Lebanon.
The earthquake struck around 4.17 am local time. The US Geological Survey said the epicenter was 17.9 kilometers underground.
It is reported that many buildings have been damaged. International media reports that five people have died. Videos shared on social media indicate that the damage caused by the earthquake is extensive.
