Kohima Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament Concludes with Thrilling Matches
Kohima, Nagaland – August 9, 2024 – The 5th Inter-departmental Badminton Tournament wrapped up today at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima, showcasing spirited competition among government employees. Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, served as the Guest of Honor at the closing ceremony, recognizing the event’s importance in fostering collaboration and camaraderie.
The two-day tournament, organized by the Inter-Department Badminton Club (IDBC), drew a total of 62 teams representing 24 different departments across the state. This year’s participation marks a 15% increase from the 2022 tournament, indicating growing enthusiasm for the sport within the Nagaland government workforce.
Buchem, in his address, highlighted the meaning of such events in strengthening inter-departmental coordination and promoting a unified approach to serving the state. He commended the IDBC for their consistent efforts in organizing the tournament and bringing together officials from diverse backgrounds.
“Tournaments of this nature are vital for improving communication and collaborative efforts among government departments, ultimately contributing to our shared goals for Nagaland’s progress,” Buchem stated. He also praised the participants for demonstrating exceptional team spirit and resilience throughout the competition.
Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director of Samagra shiksha and a member of the IDBC, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and sponsors for their contributions to the tournament’s success.

The IDBC confirmed plans to host the 6th Inter-departmental Badminton Tournament in July 2025, with registration expected to open in May. The tournament aims to continue promoting sportsmanship and collaboration within the Nagaland government.
