5-Star WR Easton Royal Flips Commitment From Texas to Florida
Five-star receiver Easton Royal flipped his commitment from Texas to Florida on Sunday, just six days before the Longhorns host the Gators in Week 7 action.
Easton Royal Switches Commitment From Texas to Florida
Royal had remained pledged to Texas since November 29 before making two on-campus visits to Gainesville early this season. The New Orleans product attends Brother Martin High School, where he posted 2,095 all-purpose yards and 29 touchdowns during his junior season. 247Sports ranks Royal as the No. 14 overall player and the No. 2 wide receiver in the Class of 2027.
Florida head coach Jon Sumrall secured the elite prospect during his first full recruiting cycle with the program. Royal stands just under six feet tall, weighs 215 pounds, and boasts multiple 100-meter dash times under 10.50 seconds. 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks noted that Royal operates effectively out of the slot, on the outside, and in the backfield while also functioning as a physical blocker in the run game.
The standout receiver pointed to the atmosphere in Gainesville as a primary driver behind his decision to change course.
It’s just way more energy in the air, completely different philosophy, energy in the building, their offense is completely different.
Royal told 247Sports.
It’s a lot of new things that they have to offer that makes this staff so great.
Florida Employs Five Receiver Coaches to Attract Royal
Royal highlighted Florida’s distinctive offensive coaching setup as a major factor in his recruitment. The program employs five receiver coaches.
They are probably one of the only schools that has five receiver coaches.
Royal told 247Sports.
You might think that’s not good, but there are no egos, and every coach can provide something different to help you.
The recruit also cited existing comfort with the coaching staff, noting a prior relationship with Jon Sumrall.
I’m very familiar with coach Sumrall. I took a visit to Tulane when he was there. I know he’s a winning head coach.
Royal said.
Royal becomes the second five-star commitment in Florida’s 2027 recruiting class, joining Pennsylvania offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller. The addition bolsters a Gators class that sat at No. 11 nationally prior to Sunday’s announcement, marking the 26th high school commitment of Sumrall’s current cycle.
