Five people were shot Friday evening near the Chicago Theater in downtown Chicago,prompting a important police response,authorities said.
Chicago police responded too a shooting near the intersection of North State Street and West Lake Street around 10:20 p.m. Friday. Numerous ambulances and police vehicles were observed in the area, with police tape cordoning off State Street and surrounding the Chicago Theater and joffrey Ballet.
The shooting occurred shortly after thousands gathered downtown for holiday celebrations,including the city’s official Christmas tree lighting ceremony four hours earlier and the opening of the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza.
Alderman Brian Hopkins reported via X (formerly Twitter) that five people were shot and multiple police officers were injured, with at least one officer hospitalized.Police have not yet confirmed these details.
