RIYADH – The 26th UN Tourism General Assembly commenced today, November 7, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, bringing together representatives from 160 member states, alongside observers and affiliate members.The assembly, hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism, focuses on the theme of “The Future of Tourism.”
This year’s assembly is especially notable as it marks a pivotal moment for the global tourism sector, still navigating post-pandemic recovery and increasingly focused on sustainable practices. Discussions are centered on fostering innovation, inclusive growth, and resilience within the industry, impacting billions of travelers and the livelihoods of countless individuals worldwide. Outcomes from the assembly are expected to shape international tourism policy and investment strategies for years to come.
The event features a series of high-level dialogues, ministerial roundtables, and technical workshops.Key agenda items include leveraging digital technologies for tourism growth,promoting responsible tourism that benefits local communities,and addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, emphasized the kingdom’s commitment to leading the transformation of the tourism sector.
The General Assembly provides a platform for member states to share best practices, forge partnerships, and contribute to the UN Tourism’s strategic framework for the future. The assembly will continue through November 10, 2025, culminating in the adoption of key resolutions and the election of new members to the UN tourism governing bodies.
