Apple to Launch Three New MacBooks in Early 2025, Including Potential Budget Option
CUPERTINO, CA – November 28, 2024 – Apple is preparing to refresh its MacBook lineup early next year with three new models, according to reports. The updates will range from a chip upgrade for the popular MacBook Air to more powerful MacBook Pro iterations and a potential new, lower-cost 12.9-inch MacBook aimed at attracting iPhone users currently opting for PC or Chromebook alternatives.
the most widely used MacBook Air will receive an M5 chip, maintaining its current 13- and 15-inch size options and overall design. A color change is anticipated, with sky blue likely being replaced by a new hue, alongside unspecified under-the-hood improvements. Apple expects to release these models in February or March, mirroring the timeline of the M4 release this year.
Following the Air’s launch, Apple will introduce updated 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These professional-grade laptops will feature faster solid-state drives (SSDs), increased memory bandwidth, and enhanced processing power. However, a important redesign for the MacBook Pro line is planned for late 2026 with the arrival of the M6 chip.
Perhaps the most intriguing development is the rumored return of a more affordable MacBook. This model is expected to feature a 12.9-inch display, be powered by the A18 pro chip – currently found in iPhones – and offer color options including silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Pricing is projected to fall between $599 and $699, targeting the large segment of iPhone users who currently choose Windows PCs or Chromebooks for their computing needs.
