GWM Revamps Haval Raptor PHEV with Extended Electric Range and Modernized Design

New Model Boasts 200km Pure Electric Driving and Enhanced Powertrain

Great Wall Motor (GWM) is set to launch an updated version of its Haval Raptor PHEV off-road SUV in China on August 19. This latest iteration features revised exterior styling, GWM’s second-generation Hi4 technology, and a significantly larger battery pack, extending its all-electric range to an impressive 200 kilometers.

Exterior Tweaks and Powertrain Upgrades

The 2026 Haval Raptor PHEV adopts a squared headlight design, mirroring the ICE variant, a departure from the previous round units. Conventional door handles are retained. At the rear, the “HAVAL” lettering on the spare tire cover has been replaced with “GWM,” and the taillights now feature a new rectangular configuration. The vehicle will be available in five exterior paint options: white, two shades of gray, black, and mint. Its dimensions measure 4800mm in length, 1950mm in width, and 1843mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2738mm.

Under the hood, the new model is equipped with a revised 1.5T engine (GW4B15M), which produces 115 kW and 243 Nm of torque, featuring a thermal efficiency of 41.5%. This works in conjunction with dual electric motors, resulting in a combined system power of 330 kW (443 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h has been improved to 5.9 seconds.

Expanded Battery Options and Enhanced EV Range

A key enhancement is the addition of a 35.43 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, enabling a CLTC pure electric range of 200 km. This supplements the existing 18.74 kWh and 27.54 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery options, which offer CLTC pure electric ranges of 102 km and 145 km, respectively. This significant increase in electric-only driving capability aligns with the growing demand for extended EV range in the SUV market. For context, the average electric range for plug-in hybrid SUVs in 2024 was approximately 70 miles (around 112 km) (Recurrent Auto, 2024).

Advanced Interior Features and Technology

The interior design remains largely consistent with the ICE variant, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central control screen running GWM’s Coffee OS 3. The cabin is appointed with a double-spoke steering wheel, paddle shifters, and 20 physical buttons for controls. Convenience features include 50W wireless phone charging, adjustable cupholders, and an integrated refrigerator capable of heating and cooling. The front seats offer electric adjustment and heating, while the rear seats allow for backrest recline adjustments between 27 and 32 degrees. The interior also provides ample storage with 45 storage compartments.

The advanced driver assistance system, GWM’s Coffee Pilot Plus, supports over 20 functions, including high-speed navigation on autopilot, parking assist, and remote parking, further enhancing the vehicle’s modern appeal.

The current Haval Raptor PHEV models are priced between 165,800 and 192,800 yuan (approximately $23,100 to $26,800 USD). An ICE variant is also available, with prices ranging from 156,900 to 166,900 yuan (approximately $21,800 to $23,200 USD).
