Bronx Development Offers Over 200 Affordable Apartments
New Transit-Oriented Project in Wakefield Features LEED Platinum Certification
A significant affordable housing opportunity has opened in the Bronx, with over 200 units available in a new development called Wakefield Yards. Situated at 4641 Furman Avenue, this project offers deeply affordable living options in a convenient location, drawing interest from New Yorkers across various income brackets.
Affordable Living Near Public Transit
This fully affordable development, spearheaded by Radson Development, provides 212 apartments on the site of a former gas station. Residents can access the 2 train directly across the street and the Metro-North Harlem line just a few blocks away. Apartments are priced from $465 for studios to $2,534 for three-bedrooms, catering to individuals and families earning 30%, 50%, 60%, and 80% of the area median income.
Eco-Friendly and Amenity-Rich Living
Wakefield Yards boasts a LEED Platinum certification, incorporating sustainable features like rooftop solar panels. The development was also part of the state’s Brownfield Cleanup Program, ensuring environmental safety. On-site amenities include a rooftop terrace, green space, a recreation room, communal laundry facilities, and secure bike storage.
Wells Fargo’s Community Lending and Investment division provided substantial financial backing for the project, with $179.1 million in financing to Radson Development.
Innovative Visualization Tools
In a bid to help prospective residents visualize the completed building, Radson partnered with inCitu to launch an augmented reality feature. By scanning QR codes at the site, potential renters can view a 3D preview of the development.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in New York City was approximately $3,500 in early 2024, highlighting the significant affordability of these new units (U.S. Census Bureau).



Application Process and Preference
New Yorkers interested in applying for these apartments must do so by September 23, 2025. Comprehensive application instructions can be found via NYC’s Housing Connect portal. Preference for 20% of the units will be given to residents of Bronx Community District 12.
