Siheung Gears Up for 17th National Maritime Sports Festival: Turtle Island to Host Inaugural Metropolitan Solo Event

Siheung City is set to make waves as it hosts the 17th National Maritime Sports Festival from August 30th to September 2nd at Sihwa Lake Turtle Island. This marks a importent milestone, as the metropolitan area will host the festival for the first time, with the event also featuring its inaugural solo competition.

Under the slogan “Blue Dream and Miracle of Sihwa Lake Turtle Island,” the four-day festival promises a extensive marine leisure experience,blending competitive sports with engaging activities. Organizers anticipate a turnout of over 50,000 participants and visitors from across the nation, transforming turtle Island into a hub of maritime excitement.

The festival will showcase a diverse range of disciplines, including yachting, canoeing, underwater and pin swimming. The triathlon, comprising swimming, cycling, and running, will also be a key attraction. Spectators can look forward to thrilling external games such as dragon boat racing, rubber boat competitions, and flyboard demonstrations. Additional attractions like banana boat rides, flyfish, and peanut boat excursions, alongside broader marine adventure activities, are also on the agenda.

Those eager to dive into the action can register for various experience programs starting early next month. Applications will be available through the National Marine Sports Festival Nuri House website and on-site during the event.

Adding to the festival’s allure, the Siheung mayor Cup International Surfing Competition will run concurrently. This integration is expected to enhance the visitor experience and extend stays on Turtle Island. Furthermore, the city is organizing a “Turtle Island Shopping Center Fair” to foster connections between landlords and tenants, aiming to generate tangible economic benefits for local businesses.

Yoon Jin-cheol,Director of Siheung City’s Balanced Development Bureau,expressed his enthusiasm,stating,”The marine sports competition,held against the backdrop of Turtle Island’s gorgeous scenery,will offer more than just games to both athletes and visitors.”
