15th Municipality of Rome approves naming Sesto Miglio theater after Gigi Proietti

The Council of the 15th Municipality unanimously approved a resolution on October 13, 2026, to name the municipal theater on via al Sesto Miglio the “Piccolo Teatro Proietti” in honor of the Roman actor Gigi Proietti, comune.roma.it reported.

Recovery of the Abandoned Cassia Theater Space

The theater building on via al Sesto Miglio sits in the Cassia territory where Proietti spent his final years. Returned to Roma Capitale in April 2026, the structure was taken over by the municipal administration during the summer. Officials assumed responsibility for returning to the community a property that had stood empty and disused for an extended period.

15th Municipality Honors Major Figure of Roman Theater

Laura Gigli, President of the Culture Commission for the 15th Municipality and author of the resolution, stated during the council session that the naming initiative does not interfere with broader recognition efforts undertaken by Roma Capitale. Instead, the designation honors a major figure of Italian and Roman theater connected to the local district.

15th Municipality President Daniele Torquati thanked the council for the unanimous vote. He credited Gigli for managing the acquisition steps that allowed the administration to reach this point.

Torquati noted that the dedication recognizes Proietti’s career and supports the role of culture as a community space for participation and growth, particularly for younger generations.

Family Response to the Neighborhood Tribute

Carlotta and Susanna Proietti, daughters of the actor, released a statement regarding the municipal decision. They stated they welcomed the news that a neighborhood theater will bear their father’s name, viewing it as a space designed to bring people closer to the performing arts and serve as a shared community resource.
