AVROTROS: Mike and Ana from Ik Vertrek rebuild financial buffer in Spain

October 13, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Mike en Ana hebben na hun vertrek naar Spanje een drukke zomer achter de rug waarin hun B&B goed gevuld was en ze een financiële buffer konden opbouwen.

Rebuilding the Buffer Amid Endless Property Upgrades

AVROTROS reported on October 6, 2026, that the couple successfully rebuilt a financial buffer after a busy season of welcoming visitors who filled their rooms and left positive reviews. They originally moved to Spain in pursuit of a quieter life anchored by the sun, the outdoors, and tranquility.

Yet the daily reality of the bed and breakfast is far from restful. Maintenance and structural projects demand constant attention across the grounds. According to AVROTROS, tasks involving the electricity and the bathroom inside the private home remain on the schedule, alongside ongoing property improvements.

A Settling Household and Domestic Relief

Behind the scenes, family life has finally steadied after the turbulence of their initial relocation. Their daughter Mia is growing well as a cheerful toddler, and her improved nighttime sleeping habits have relieved mounting pressure on the parents. Additional support brought in to assist with daily routines has made a noticeable difference for Mike and Ana, while their dog Bailey has also settled into the environment.

Winter Pressures and Spring Retreat Ambitions

Despite summer successes, the upcoming winter months introduce financial unpredictability driven by lower visitor numbers. To maintain momentum through the off-season, the couple is already looking ahead to the spring.

AVROTROS reported that Mike and Ana plan to resume their multi-day retreats once warmer weather returns. They also intend to introduce single-day retreats on dates when the bed and breakfast has no overnight guests.

Diversifying the Enterprise for the Future

Beyond traditional accommodation and retreats, the entrepreneurs aim to stretch their business model further. Plans include expanding their property offerings to incorporate hypnotherapy sessions and fitness bootcamps.

While the relocation and business startup presented significant challenges, the couple expresses pride in what they have established. Day by day, Spain is increasingly feeling like home.
