$11.4 Million Nvidia Hardware Shipment Stolen En Route From Oakland to Texas
Six pallets of NVIDIA computer hardware valued at $11.4 million vanished while traveling from Oakland, California, to Fort Worth, Texas, according to reporting by the Bay Area News Group.
Truck Carrying Food Cargo Vanishes in San Bernardino County
The transport began on August 29 when a truck bearing a food transportation company logo collected the cargo in Oakland as scheduled. The vehicle and its drivers headed south, subsequently making several multi-hour stops before law enforcement lost track of the route in San Bernardino County, as detailed by the Bay Area News Group. The missing cargo was not noticed until early September. The Oakland Police Department received a formal grand theft report on September 13, 2026. Investigators have not announced any arrests in connection with the disappearance.
I've learned 2 drivers under subcontract to @FedEx to haul $11.4 M in @nvidia cargo from Oakland to Fort Worth never made it to Texas. Instead, GPS trackers were found in Valencia & Stevenson Ranch (LA Co.) & Upland (San Bernardino Co.). Theft probe underway by @oaklandpoliceca pic.twitter.com/XmT15yUHS1
International Black Market Valuations
Olaf Groth, a professor at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, told ABC7 Bay Area that high-end computing components can command double their domestic price in international markets. A compute system priced at $550,000 domestically can sell for $1 million or more abroad. Groth noted that these cargo heists are growing larger and more complex, indicating increased professionalization among criminal crews targeting high-value technology shipments.
Prior California Technology Thefts
NVIDIA hardware has faced targeted cargo theft before. Police in Fremont and Union City investigated previous regional burglaries totaling more than $7.5 million in losses, according to the East Bay Times. Police believe some of the suspects’ vehicles in those cases were obtained in Southern California before the group traveled to the Bay Area to commit the thefts. A separate September incident in California involved the theft of two trailers from a warehouse facility, which police recovered after discovering the cargo inside consisted of 40,000 pounds of sand used to simulate freight loads, as reported by Wired.
